The Corporate Social Responsibility at Alila Villas Uluwatu and Alila Ubud takes the three excellent concepts of Tri Hita Karana.

Tri Hita Karana is the life concepts of the Balinese community in accomplishing secular and spiritual bliss through harmonization of the relationship between human and God (spiritual concept) – Parhyangan, human to human (social / community concept) – Pawongan, human and environment (environment concept) – Palemahan into an integral unity.

The Corporate Social Responsibility program at Alila Villas Uluwatu adopts the three concepts of Tri Hita Karana which is a concept of the Balinese community where accomplishing secular & spiritual bliss is established through a harmonization of the relationship between human and God (spiritual concept) – ‘Parhyangan’, human and human (social / community concept) – ‘Pawongan’ and human and environment (environmental concept) – ‘Palemahan’ into an integral unity.

Alila Villas Uluwatu on a regular basis supported the ceremonies held in nearby villages, through donations that could take the form of monetary support, or beverages, foods and other items required to run the events, which usually were greatly appreciated by the community.

Alila Villas Uluwatu also supported the Bali Life Foundation every month. This program was started with the idea of providing foods and cooking gas needs of the orphanage since 2009 and it is our commitment to continue this program long into the future.

Below are the supports for ceremonial / religious, cultural, environmental, social and sport events provided by Alila Villas Uluwatu in 2013:

a. Ceremonial / Religious Events

– Alila Villas Uluwatu conducted the annual “Piodalan” (yearly religious ceremony) on August 6, 2013 at Pura Shindu Loka Amertha, the hotel’s temple with the Tambyak community. Piodalan is an important ceremony to maintain the harmonious relationship between people and God, people and others especially those residing around the hotel and its surrounding area as well as people with the environment. This ceremony is conducted in the middle of every year (around June, July or August), following the auspicious day in the Balinese calendar.

– In order to maintain the harmony of our life, the team at Alila Villas Uluwatu conducted daily religious offerings, handled by the village low priestess (Ibu Mangku Derwi). With the increased business volume, the priestess had also grown her team to serve the entire area of Alila Villas Uluwatu, ensuring a balanced relationship with the Gods.

– Alila Villas Uluwatu donated funds to the following temples in the Pecatu area: Uluwatu Temple, Muren Temple and Semer Temple, followed by praying together with the community.

– Annual celebration of the month of Ramadhan, continued with Eid’al Fitr Day celebration, which were participated by all Moslem members of the team, including all outsourced workers of Alila Villas Uluwatu.
– Alila Villas Uluwatu team members also celebrated Christmas Day with the children from the Bali Life Foundation.

b. Cultural Events

– Alila Villas Uluwatu contributed to the Annual Ogoh-ogoh Festival in Pecatu. We distributed donations to 9 banjars in Pecatu Village to support the youth in making their Ogoh-ogoh. This event is an annual event to welcome Nyepi Day where the Ogoh-Ogoh giants symbolizes evil spirit that they wish to get rid of during the Nyepi Day.

– Local children and music players from Banjar Tambyak, Pecatu are invited on a daily basis to entertain the guest in the lobby area and to showcase the art and cultural aspects of Bali in the most natural way. We are always keen to promote art and cultural groups from the local community to our guests, who may wish to experience cultural performances in the hotel.

c. Social Events

– Alila Villas Uluwatu had conducted a traineeship program for kids of the Bali Wise Foundation. The training sessions started with a focus on English class, which was conducted by Alila Villas Uluwatu’s English trainer. Afterwards trainees followed on-the-job training until the end of the traineeship period.

– Alila Villas Uluwatu donated food and cooking gas for the children of the Bali Life Foundation every month. Alila Villas Uluwatu also encouraged guests to participate in donating funds to the Bali Life Foundation. We had received a great support from our guests for this project.

– Alila Villas Uluwatu also continued to collaborate with community members of a remote village in East Bali to make organic and handmade guest amenities.

– Alila Villas Uluwatu’s team installed a large water tank in addition to the existing water supply system at Yayasan Mentari Fajar on May 14, 2013. This would help the foundation in providing the needed daily water supply. Yayasan Mentari Fajar is a foundation that takes care of the disabled and autistic children.

– Alila Villas Uluwatu donated funds to the local elementary school, SD 5 Pecatu, to support their school operations.

– Alila Villas Uluwatu’s team installed pipes and water taps as well as electricity cables and lamps on September 8, 2013, for supplying water & electricity to the Muren Temple with the help of community arounf the temple.

– Alila Villas Uluwatu worked together with Surya Husada Hospital to conduct a seminar on Mother & Children’s Nutrition in the Tambyak Subak Hall on April 8, 2013. The seminar was attended by the women of Tambyak as well as Alila Villas Uluwatu’s team members with their toddlers This event was also followed by free blood sugar tests for the elderlies and women.

– Alila Villas Uluwatu’s management held regular meetings with the local community leaders to discuss the community relationship and any environmental issues.

– Alila Villas Uluwatu took the initiative to do a Green Campaign by distributing the re-usable non-plastic bags, which are called “Tas Pasar” to all members of the Alila Villas Uluwatu team. We encouraged them not to use plastic bags when shopping in the market, shops or kiosks. Alila Villas Uluwatu also distributed these bags to the local community members on September 22, 2013 for the same purpose.

d. Sport Events

– Alila Villas Uluwatu team participated in BHA sport activities, such as futsal and fun walk.

e. Environmental Events

– Alila Villas Uluwatu conducted regular cleaning blitzes (“meresik”) after temple ceremonies at the Uluwatu Temple. A similar cleaning blitz was organized after a large temple ceremony at the Besakih Temple, which was conducted together with some other hotels in Bali organized by Yayasan Tri Hita Karana on April 19, 2013.

– Participated in the Earth Day event of the ROLE Foundation (Bali Wise). Alila Villas Uluwatu participated in this event by donating funds and snack as well as creating a “Pledge to Mother Earth” which was done by Alila Villas Uluwatu team members and the local community. Sole-men and Sole-girls, who walked bare feet to the hotel, collected the Pledges. The ROLE Foundation is an organization that is taking care of orphans as well as poor children in the South Bali area. The ROLE team teaches the children on how to make compost, how to look after plants (organic plants) by using compost and some other gardening skills.

– Alila Villas Uluwatu participated in the mangroves re-planting project at the Nusa Dua area together with other hotels and schools on September 6, 2013.

– We contracted a local entity (Tambyak Lestari) to collect rubbish at Alila Villas Uluwatu to be properly sorted, recycled and reused.

– Alila Villas Uluwatu continued to conduct cleaning blitzes around the hotel area as well as beach cleaning with the help of the local community. The purpose of this activity is to enhance the environmental awareness of the team members of Alila Villas Uluwatu and to maintain the environment around the property. At the same time, we were working in promoting the sense of togetherness of the Alila Villas Uluwatu team members and the Tambyak community.

Total expense incurred by the Company in supporting all Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives of Alila Villas Uluwatu for the year 2013 was Rp. 405.411.433.

DONATION FOR THE THYPOON HAIYAN VICTIMS

Along with our commitment to support the local community as well as supporting our environment friendliness policy as a leader in the lifestyle industry, we feel responsible to get involved in the recovery project related to the Super Typhoon Haiyan disaster that struck early November 2013 in the Philippines.

We conducted the social activities in the Islas de Gigantes by cooperating with the Filipino Embassy and Care Group. We paid particular attention to the municipality of Estancia, located in Iloilo Province, an area with a population of 12 thousand, 90% of whom worked as fishermen. The typhoon’s aftermath had paralyzed most of the area with no electricity. It had also caused extensive damage to almost all of the local fishing fleets.

The social activities that we did to support the affected community was providing them with generators, as well as distributing Christmas gifts for the children, and building 10 fishing boats and 10 pedi-cabs for the community recovery.

Alila Ubud

We are committed to build a harmonious life with the local community and environment. As such, we provide a vast range of supports for the local community, which include cultural supports, religious donations and environmental-protection supports.

Such commitments are partly sealed in an agreement between the Company and the village community residing around Alila Ubud, where we agree to give donations to the local villages on a monthly basis. This agreement has been in effect since the last 5 (five) years. The donations could take the form of supports for religious or ceremonial events, including funding or providing food and beverages.

In terms of the support for the environment, Alila Ubud is involved in the Bali Recycling service, an initiative that improves our capability on waste management, including by assuring the implementation of proper procedures for waste disposal and recycling.

Below are the supports for ceremonial, religious, cultural and sport events that Alila Ubud took part of in 2013:

A. Ceremonial Events

Held and supported the regular religious ceremonies conducted in the nearby villages, by way of financial support, food & beverages and other things, in order to maintain good spiritual environment and strong affinity with ‘Parahyangan’ (with God), ‘Pawongan’ (with fellow human beings) and ‘Palemahan’ (with nature) which comprises of the following :

– Conducted Piodalan / larger ceremonies at Rambut Sedana Temple, the hotel temple, every 6 months, on July 24, 2013.

– Conducted regular ceremony called Rumpek Landep at the hotel on January 26 & August 24, 2013.

– Participated in daily offering and the maintenance of the hotel temple for all employees around the hotel temple.

B. Sport Events

– Regular sporting events in the form of futsal practice.

– Held Company outing for all staff & family to Waterbom Park on December 14 and 15, 2013

– Held a celebration for employees who had work contribution in Alila on December 31, 2013.

C. Social Events

– Collaborated with the Saraswati Foundation, an all-female foundation, on recycling used papers and producing products from them. The foundation helped to recycle used papers in our office and turn them into postcards, menu cards, and greeting cards which we use for promotion events at our Alila Living Boutique.

– Provided support for the village of Peneca in order to ensure the availability of continuous fresh water supply to the village community.

– Provided support to the Pecalang at the village of Bayad during Nyepi Day’s celebration on March 20, 2013.

– Supported the Mass ‘Ngaben’ ceremony of Bayad, Peneca, and Karangsuwung villages on August 27, 2013.

– Supported the Independence Day celebration of Payangan village on August 16, 2013.

– Giving monthly contribution to the villages around the hotel in accordance with the MOU signed between the hotel and the villages (Bayad, Tanggayuda, Karang Dalem & Bongkasa).

– Involved 12 orphans from Mahanain Orphanage, Tabanan, during Christmas Celebration 2013 where they had dinner together with the guests. The guests then had a chance to sing together with the children as well as to directly give their personal contribution to the orphanage.

D. Environmental Events

– Engaged in the Bali Recycling program to further improve our commitment in the waste management system.

– Conducted a mutual cooperation with the Subak (farmer committee) to help maintaining the irrigation water system.

– Conducted a regular cleaning blitz with our staff at the villages area near the hotel’s main gate and at the hotel temple on February 22, March 22, April 26, September 24, November 15, 2013.

E. Cultural Events

– Supported local artists by giving them a chance to perform at our resort, such as during F&B weekly event, ‘Spice Market’ presenting Balinese musical / gamelan or Balinese dance.

– In addition, we collaborated with villagers living in remote area in North East Bali to do creative work. This gives them the opportunity to generate income from making handcrafted soap and other organic amenities for the daily consumption of our hotel guests.

F. General Information

– Alila Ubud also welcomed local community members as part-time workers or trainees to support various projects taking place at our living boutique.

Total expenses incurred in 2013 by the Company to support the local environment at Alila Ubud were Rp. 564.992.545,-
